America's Next Top Model: British Invasion is the eighteenth "cycle," or season, of America's Next Top Model, and the twelfth season to air on The CW Network (The CW).[1] The cycle premiered on February 29, 2012 and occupied the time slot of the final two scheduled episodes of Remodeled.[2] America's Next Top Model Cycle 18 features fourteen models, placing 7 British models who have competed in previous cycles of Britain's Next Top Model alongside 7 all-new American model hopefuls in an overall competition.
The international destinations for this cycle were Toronto, Canada (for one episode) and the Special Administrative Regions of Macau and Hong Kong in China.
The promotional song for this cycle is Engerland (Fabio The Daddyo) by Blues Saraceno.
The winner was 21 year-old British model Sophie Sumner from Oxford, England making her the first ever non-American winner.Analeigh Tipton was born on November 9, 1988 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.[3] When Tipton was 8, her family relocated to Sacramento, California,[3] where she later attended St. Francis High School and the New York Film Academy's Film School program at Universal Studios, Los Angeles.[citation needed] She studied at Marymount College in Palos Verdes, California.[4][5] Tipton was also a supporter of the Invisible Children.[citation needed] She participated in the Global Night Commute in the Cesar Chavez park.[citation needed]Prior to America's Next Top Model, Tipton was signed to I Model & Talent in Los Angeles[6] and walked in Los Angeles Fashion Week Fall 2008 for designer, Kelly Nishimoto for her Fall 2008 collection, Imasu.Tipton began skating at the age of two and a half,[3] and competed in four U.S. Synchronized Skating Championships.[citation needed] Later, she and her pair partner, Phillip Cooke,[8] became two-time regional champions, and competed at the U.S. Junior Figure Skating Championships twice on the Juvenile level.[8] She retired from competitive skating at 16 but continued to skate in charity ice shows for AIDS foundations and to rebuild a rink damaged in a fireTipton placed third on Cycle 11 of America's Next Top Model in 2008.[10] She was recruited through Myspace and was asked to audition in Los Angeles.[3] At the beginning of the show, Tipton revealed that she once encountered sex traffickers posing as modeling agents. She was then sold to a Saudi Arabian prince but managed to get out of the situation before the deal was finalized.[5][11] After landing in the bottom 2 in the episode "You're Beautiful, Now Change" for not using her ice-skating moves to her advantage, she rebounded and appeared in the top three for seven consecutive weeks.[citation needed] Tipton was called first twice, one for the first CoverGirl commercial, which Tyra Banks deemed "the best CoverGirl commercial in the history of America's Next Top Model."[12] She also won the go-sees challenge, by booking all three of her go-sees she went to and getting back on time.[13] In a challenge won by Elina Ivanova, Ivanova shared her prize with Marjorie Conrad and Tipton; they appeared alongside each other in the December 2008/January 2009 issue of Seventeen magazine.[citation needed] She was subsequently eliminated in the finale after forgetting her lines in the second CoverGirl commercial, which left Samantha Potter and McKey Sullivan to walk in the finale runway show.The competition starts at Universal CityWalk in Hollywood, seven new models from America finding out that they would battle against previous contestants from Britain's Next Top Model. The culture clash begins with a fashion parade with the models on top of a float. The American girls receive love from their fans, while the British girls are welcomed by silence from the crowd. After the parade, the models take part in a runway challenge with legendary boxing ring announcer Michael Buffer as master of ceremonies. In the challenge, Ashley is offended when Candace calls her a trick, while Jasmia throws her jacket at AzMarie's face.After the show, the girls arrive at their new home. The American girls begin skinny dipping in the pool, which shocks the British girls. The very first photo shoot had the girls portraying American and British public figures while jumping on a trampoline, with sixty cameras capturing them in a 3D shot.t panel, the judges deemed that the UK girls outperformed the US girls in every shot, but an American girl ultimately received the first call out. Seymone was criticized for simply looking "pretty" in her shot, while Mariah was reprimanded for being too sexy. AzMarie also struggled to get into character, which led to Ashley outshining her in their shot.Mariah and Seymone found themselves in the bottom two: Mariah for being unmemorable and Seymone for falling to the back of the pack and having what Tyra called "beginners' luck". Ultimately, Tyra handed the last photograph to Seymone, whose personality saved her, while Mariah became the first American girl to leave the competition.Tipton signed with Ford Models in Los Angeles and Abrams Artists Agency, in both the commercial and theatrical divisions.[1] Additionally, she appeared on Spain's Marie Claire, Seventeen magazine's December 2008-January 2009 edition, and a several page spread in Maxim.[14] She has also done catalog work for Forever 21, Guess, Three Dots and featured in the CampusGirls USA 'Girls of Pac 10 Conference' calendar which is published by her cousin and raises money for breast cancer.In 2010, Tipton modeled Geren Ford's pre-fall 2010 collection. After the photo shoot, the models are allowed to choose their final photo. Back at the house, the British girls discuss Annaliese's disorganized leadership.
At the panel, Sophie and Catherine receive praise, while Alisha and Ashley do not. During Louise's critique, Nigel calls her "mean" and Kelly constantly patronises Louise and eventually calls her rude with which Louise fights back and tells Kelly she was being rude. This ultimately leads to the judges commenting on her attitude and causes her to dramatically break down and walk out of set and subsequently quit the competition. During the elimination ceremony, Louise's name is called and Tyra reveals that she would have remained in the competition had she not left on her own accord (despite having a bad attitude and talking back to the judges). Alisha, Ashley, Candace, & Eboni are called forward as the bottom four, all of whom were not liked by the client. Nevertheless, Tyra hands the girls a single sheet with all four of their photographs and decides to not send any of them home.
